I think I also heard it used in Cain's case, not by Cain himself, but by one of his supporters.
How could a grown man (Thomas) or anybody speaking for him (Cain) be 1) so pathetically self-pitying as to compare his being accused of misconduct to a lynching and 2) so ignorant of history as to not know how this casual use dismisses the horrendousness of the actual practice?
It's like describing an invasion of privacy, like having somebody go through a purse without permission, as being like rape--sure, there are similarities, and having one's privacy violated is a terrible thing, but they are not even remotely equivalent.

we get everyday from the likes Rush, Hannity, Larsen, etc. etc. and the right wing MSM. They cry like babies when it focuses on them.
