Doesn't that seem like a really good question to ask them? They certainly didn't terminate him because they thought he was doing a great job. What was the reason they got rid of him after only a few years do you think?

3. One of many good questions.
I'd like to know why Pillsbury rewards Cain for killing a $300MM asset in 30 months by letting him buyout the franchise for $30MM.

Where did Herm get that kind of cash?

Who'd risk that capital with the guy who mismanaged the operation to 1/10 of it's value?

5. I don't think it works like that--it's a board of directors type thing, not a full time job.
You get chosen from within the ranks....Likely, you hold the job for a term, and it rotates around the board of the "chosen few"--or those who lobby for the position. I don't think he was fired, he likely did his turn and that was that. http://www.restaurant.org/aboutus/leaders/

Leadership

The National Restaurant Association is governed by a volunteer board of directors and led in Washington, D.C., by a president and chief executive officer. On average, the board consists of 90 to 95 directors from across the country who represent every facet of the restaurant industry.

6. he was president and ceo
in some organizations, particularly those with weak boards, the buck stops with the ceo. i've worked in non-profits for years and a lot of boards let the ceo run the show. think it is a full-time, paid position.

Dawn Sweeney

As president and chief executive officer of the National Restaurant Association, Dawn Sweeney leads the chief business association for the restaurant industry. One of the nation's most powerful trade organizations, the National Restaurant Association represents all types of restaurant and foodservice concepts, including quickservice, fast casual, managed foodservice, casual and fine dining, along with manufacturers, suppliers and distributors, for an industry of 960,000 restaurant and foodservice outlets and 12.8 million employees.

The organization's mission is to help its members -- the cornerstones of their communities -- build customer loyalty, rewarding careers and financial success. She also serves as the CEO of the National Restaurant Association's Educational Foundation, a philanthropic foundation dedicated to enhancing the industry's service to the public.

Immediately before taking the helm of the National Restaurant Association in October 2007, Sweeney was president and CEO of AARP Services, the wholly owned taxable subsidiary of AARP. She was responsible for growing annual revenues from $175 million to $785 million during her tenure -- revenues used to support AARP's mission. Nearly 11 million AARP members used AARP Services products. Sweeney's stewardship of AARP Services included the launch of AARP Financial, which offers financial planning services and products such as AARP Funds, a suite of mutual funds.

8. Maybe so--I don't claim to be an expert. I think, though, if he were fired, we'd have heard about
it contemporaneous with the first round of accusations.

I just don't think there's much "there" there in terms of how he exited that job. That's not to say that I disbelieve his accusers--I do think where there's smoke, not once, twice, but four times (at least, thus far) there's likely a raging conflagration.

10. It was reported tonight on Hardball that Cain was let go 6 months before his contract expired
Kind of sounds like he was fired.

I may be wrong on that, but it seemed as if they'd had enough of being an ATM for harassment claims.

At some point, one's liability insurer steps in and says, "I think you need to make some changes."
