Louisiana bans cash transactions on second hand goods.
Edited on Tue Nov-08-11 04:08 PM by Xicano
House bill 195 basically says those who buy and sell second hand goods cannot use cash to make those transactions, and it flew so far under the radar most businesses don't even know about it.

~snip~

The law states those who buy or sell second hand goods are prohibited from using cash. State representative Rickey Hardy co-authored the bill.

Hardy says, "they give a check or a cashiers money order, or electronic one of those three mechanisms is used."

Hardy says the bill is targeted at criminals who steal anything from copper to televisions, and sell them for a quick buck. Having a paper trail will make it easier for law enforcement.

Its all about giving law enforcement more and more intrusive tools to monitor everything you do. Hey it works in prisons. Oh wait, not really.

So lets see. So far they've used 9/11 to get warrantless searches and wire taps, naked body scanners, groping of your gentiles, suspension of habeas corpus, kidnapping-torture and even kill you without due process if you're out of country. Now add out lawing cash transactions. Am I the only one scratching his head wondering aren't we suppose to be defending our freedom and way of life?

1. Every garage sale and Goodwill store is now an act of civil disobedience!
Talk about being the 99 %!

16. If that is also true at Goodwill then the justification is completely bogus
Since Goodwill resells donated goods, and I doubt any thief is going to steal in order to donate to Goodwill.

3. So thrift-shop customers need to have a checking acount or credit card?
Often, the customers of used items are the least likely to have a bank account or credit card.

9. Very true. It makes me wonder if
they don't really just intend to drive second-hand businesses out of business to increase new sales.

4. It seems more a method to ensure sales tax is paid than it is a deterrent to crime. . .
Because of course, a criminal fencing stolen property will think twice before breaking this new law. . .

I'm not sure whether this or the raft of anti-sodomy laws is a better bet.

7. It might be ignored until a cop or prosecutor uses it to threaten someone like a witness.
I'd like to see this go to the SCOTUS.

10. Jesus.
I can hardly wait until they arrest some homeowner for having a garage sale.

It's somewhat heartening to see that new goods can still be paid for in cash.

17. It will go to the higher courts and be struck down
That's ridiculous....so they will punish the majority of the population for a handfull of thieves?

They mentioned stolen copper....here is an idea...how about the companies that use copper wire and other goods deemed worthy....how about they protect their shit...?

This is not about protecting the populace. this is another way to drive those that can't get bank accounts etc for various reasons pushed out of the state etc.

19. I don't think it has anything
to do with yard sales. It has to do with people who are in the business.
