Cop Ingo Mayer's public strip search during traffic search costs him 40K out of own pocket

Public strip search costs ex-Oakland cop $40K

A former Oakland police officer must pay $40,000 out of his own pocket to two men who were illegally strip-searched in public and have already been awarded at least $100,000 apiece in damages.

-----------------------

Mayer testified that he had stopped the car for a traffic violation but could not provide a reason for having done so, Patel said.

Mayer handcuffed Lucas and undid his belt buckle, causing Lucas' pants to fall to his ankles, Patel wrote. Then the officer asked Lucas if he had any drugs in his buttocks, pulled his boxer shorts halfway down and shook them against his genitals as a crowd gathered to watch, the judge wrote.

Another officer similarly searched Bradshaw at Mayer's direction, Bradshaw testified.

1. Now THAT's what I like to see! Why should the taxpayers have to pay for the lunacy of an individual
anyway? His behavior was plainly outside the standards of conduct. It's good that HE foots the bill, and not the poor bastards paying property taxes to the municipality.

Might make others think a bit harder, if they were held personally and pecuniarily liable for their misconduct.

Perhaps the pension accounts of these guys could be tapped if they don't happen to have the cash on hand.

It would put some teeth in ethics regulations, if more judgments like this were handed down.

2. Strip search his wallet.
And then his bank accounts. Make sure the $40K gets paid.

5. He wasn't fired for that?
That department sounds like the whole department needs to go. They are a threat to public safety.

Disgusting behavior and those men did not get nearly enough money to compensate for such an assault.

6. No longer on the job at the time of the judgment, per the article. NT
