...and you find that really compelling for some reason and want to tell those who follow you what I said, you would say "RT @DisgustipatedinCA I like pie". In this way, people who follow you could see that you are citing me. If I actually had something more important than pie to talk about, my "tweet" might be "retweeted" several times, and seen by thousands in a very short amount of time.

Maddow retweeted Meghan McCain thanking her (Rachel) for having her (McCain) on the show, i.e., Rachel, in effect, said, 'look at the thank you that Megan McCain sent my way'.
