As we enter the 20th year since Gulf War One,recent Congressional actions give some insight into future troop support.
Gulf War One officially began August 2,1990 and ended February 28,1991.
There were few combat-related deaths. Unfortunately,of the 682,000
troops that served in The Persian Gulf during this time frame over 300,000 now suffer from a multitude of illnesses. Thanks to research studies funded by H. Ross Perot and led by Dr. Richard Haley at UTSW ,the etiology of Gulf War Syndrome has been revealed. A combination of Depleted Uranium, vaccinations to combat anthrax and chemical weapon exposure led to a multitude of diseases in American troops and birth defects in their children. Since then,it has been a long and difficult struggle for the veterans to receive service-related benefits for their sacrifice.
On December 8,2010 The House voted on H R 3082,including designated funding for Gulf War Syndrome. The troubling aspect of this bill was the final roll call of 212 representatives "FOR" and 204 representatives "AGAINST".
I encourage all concerned voters to review the roll call and see who truly supports our troops when they come home:
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2010/roll622.xml Is this a sign of things to pass? Veterans groups who have worked tirelessly in the past are concerned about future support of veterans of past and current wars. We have seen tremendous advances made in veteran care since 2008. Please encourage our Congressmembers to continue to support our troops ... before, during and after their war-zone deployments.
