I posted this thread earlier... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x2262443The mistake was not intentional...I honestly didn't know we had one of these.

5. I've traveled on it before. |

A fast train, but unfortunately seems to be on many of the same rails as the slow ones which really cancels some of the advantages.

9. "We" don't have one of those. The NYC-DC corridor has one of those. |

The rest of us get The Little Engines That Could (Sort Of).

12. I ride the Acela regularly |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-08-11 06:40 PM by jberryhill
I'm in the Philly area and take it to NY and DC pretty often.
It does not favorably compare to other high speed rail systems.
Upthread someone mentioned it runs on the same tracks as the regular trains.
True... but... they did have to put in all welded rail and banked a few curves. But to accommodate for all of the non-banked curves, the body of the Acela swivels, which improves the ride dynamics a bit, but still limits speed.
The major problem is that it has to run between the raindrops of the normal Northeast corridor schedule.
Oh, and don't bother with "First Class". It's the same as the rest of the train but they give you a sandwich, a soda, and a bag of chips.
It's a nice ride, but not really worth the premium on a few minutes time saved to DC or NY.
WiFi is nice, but it tends to be a little slow, given that everyone onboard is sucking down Netflix.

that's what folks are saying up thread--those that have ridden them. I'm in Delaware, as far as I know we still have the ones Biden rode to DC on every day. :-)

And thanks for the train threads, you done good.

We need a transcontinental route, but piecemeal would get there eventually.
I would love to see a solar route like Atlanta - NO - Houston - Vegas - LA
