Sh*tbag oil exec calls enviromental activists insurgents

“Download the U.S. Army-slash-Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Manual, because we are dealing with an insurgency,” said Matt Carmichael, the manager of external affairs for Anadarko Petroleum. “There’s a lot of good lessons in there and coming from a military background, I found the insight in that extremely remarkable.”

Last week’s oil industry conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Houston was supposed to be an industry confab just like any other — a series of panel discussions, light refreshments and an exchange of ideas.

It was a gathering of professionals to discuss “media and stakeholder relations” in the hydraulic fracturing industry — companies using the often-controversial oil and gas extraction technique known as “fracking.”

But things took an unexpected twist.

CNBC has obtained audiotapes of the event, on which one presenter can be heard recommending that his colleagues download a copy of the Army and Marine Corps counterinsurgency manual. That’s because, he said, the opposition facing the industry is an “insurgency.” ...........(more)

1. Anadarko had 25 percent working interest in BP's Macondo Prospect and
its finances were affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.<7>
BP has billed Anadarko more than $272 million for its share of cleanup and response costs in the Gulf, according to a bill that was sent by BP and obtained by TPMMuckraker. Anadarko publicly suggested that it won't pay for costs associated with the oil disaster, claiming in a statement that BP is guilty of gross negligence or willful misconduct. Under the joint operating agreement, Anadarko must pay its portion of costs related to any incident—unless that incident was caused by its partner's gross negligence or willful misconduct.<8>

2. We need some active duty soviets/councils in the military
These slugs are getting ready to up the ante again. And they're obviously planning on using the US military to do so. So soldiers, do you fight for the people or do you fight for Wall Street?

nothing else matters much considering what's happening to my planet. I'm not that strong though, and I can't even drive.. still I'll fight for it. I have a feeling I'll have to before long.

They are not the only ones to believe they are facing an insurgency.
