On election night, if you win, you bring everybody up to the podium. From your most trusted advisers down to the lowliest flunky who stuffed even one envelope. Share the glory and bask in victory for one night before the hard work really begins.

But when you lose, as Santorum did on the night this photo was taken? You go up to the podium alone. Everybody owns a piece of victory; a loss is yours and yours alone. Maybe you bring your campaign manager up, maybe you bring the spouse up, but only if he or she was really active on the campaign trail, making appearances at events when the candidate couldn't make it. You never EVER bring the kiddies up, even if they really, really want to go up there, and this picture is all the explanation needed. This is child abuse, plain and simple, and Santorum should be ashamed he did this. He should apologize once a day, every day, for the rest of his life for doing this to his kids.
