Not everyone voting against this is doing so out of sanity.

I think many of them are voting against it based on what would happen to in vitro fertilization, and if that weren't part of the deal, many more would vote to make abortion illegal there. If it could affect them, or anyone they know, then it takes on a whole new meaning.

That being said, the results so far are very encouraging, no matter how they came about.
