Need Du'er help with a petition to stop Mosanto's GM maize

Monsanto has contracted with Chemonix, a beltway bandit that "wins" contracts with USAID, to introduce genetically modified maize seeds into Nepal, with the purported purpose of increasing yields. There is a great deal of anecdotal and hard evidence on the net that GM seeds have disastrous results and that organic farming is a better way to improve crop yields. Monsanto is named over and over again.

Please sign this petition, started by Nepali activists, to stop this action from moving forward.

It's been great to watch (on FB) young Nepalis organize and become active. They're holding a self-directed workshop on using social media to promote causes. Very cool.

6. My grandmother visited Nepal many years ago.

It has to be just about the poorest country in the world. She later became involved with a group that sponsored children there and built a school. She ran into trouble when she began getting letters from her sponsored child's father to send her checks directly to him. The chance of American letters getting stolen by those looking for money is so great, that the director of the group would have to periodically go there personally to deliver the money. The father of her sponsored child eventually removed her from the school to put her to work in a carpet factory, incredibly sad and my grandmother felt terrible, but after that she sponsored the girl's younger brother. Last I knew, the project was doing well, but the poverty and desperation is heartbreaking... ;( :hi:

Wow, I'm genuinely impressed! I read up on Nepal when my grandmother sponsored children there, and it sounded so very poor and desperate. When you get the time, you might want to post more about your work there... :yourock: :hi:
