MAINE: the People's Veto restores same-day voter registration!
HA!

http://www.kjonline.com/news/same-day-registration-survives_2011-11-08.html

AUGUSTA -- A law requiring voters to enroll at least two days before an election was repealed Tuesday, restoring a four-decade policy of allowing registrations up to and including Election Day.

With 46 percent of precincts reporting, the proposal to repeal the newly enacted requirement passed with 59 percent of the vote.

"This is a big day for the voters of Maine," said David Farmer, spokesman for the Yes on One campaign. "They stood up for their rights to be heard. This tells us that Maine people won't stand for people messing with their elections."

The referendum was put on the ballot through a people's veto initiative after the Republican-controlled Legislature passed a law in June requiring voters to register at least two business days before an election is held. That set aside a state law passed in 1973 that allows Election Day, or same-day, registrations.

Our electoral registers are updated every October. Not sure if you can be entered onto a register in betweeny.

On the upside we do still use pieces of paper and pencils to vote - none of that electronic shit. :)

The registers are also used for proof of address for the purpose of running credit checks although these days copy of a utility bill in the applicants name at an address usually suffices.

3. No electronic shite here in Oregon either....
Elections are run by the States here, so each one sets the methods. We use paper ballots which are returned by mail or directly to the elections office.
We do not use pencils, as they can erase, we use ink only. I personally make copies of my ballot prior to taking them to the elections office, as I enjoy that sort of thing....
