What are the political smoke signals for Obama in Ohio after yesterday's elections? |
|
Issue 3 in Ohio called for a constitutional amendment allowing Ohio to ignore federal health care mandates under Obamacare. It passed overwhelmingly in Ohio Tuesday.
What's the bigger indicator of the political climate of Ohio? The landslide passage of Issue 3, or the 2-1 margin of defeat of Issue 2, which repeals Republican Gov. Kasich's dismantling of collective bargaining rights contained in SB 5 that he helped ram through the state legislature earlier this year?

1. Dear politicians: Don't ram legislation down people's throats. |
|
That's the only common thread I see between Issue 2's defeat and Issue 3's passing.
Whether it's a healthcare mandate or removal of collective bargaining, if there's vocal opposition, the message to leaders is: ignore at your own peril.
If we had a public option attached to the individual mandate, I would've been more motivated to get others to vote against Issue 3. But as it stands, I voted against it, but can see the point of view of those who supported it.

43223. The present health care system is ridiculous. You are supporting 2 industries, health care AND insurance with every doctor's visit. Somebody will eventually come up with a better system, don't force me to be a part of your crappy one.

3. The wording on Issue 3 is why it passed |
|
It was very confusing and if you didn't know what the issue really was about, you could easily be confused in the voting booth, For the electronic machines, the summary read a little different than the issue did on the ballot. I had to go back and make sure I understood it.
Most people probably didn't know what to do!
