Did anyone else hear what David Gregory just said on Today?
Talking about whether the GOP really wants the Cain story out of the news and Cain out of the race, David Gregory began by saying, "Well Ann, there's really no Grand Wizard of the party right now, so..."

Freudian slip, anyone?

4. What possible connotation does "Grand Wizard" have other than the historical one?
I don't think he had Gandalf in mind.

12. The only other possible one is the Man Behind the Curtain in Oz
Though "grand" wasn't in front of that, was it?

20. yes, I'm aware of that, but am addressing the issue of whether there is any other possible
thought that Gregory could have had in mind.

21. Maybe he meant to say "grand vizier"
Though that wouldn't have been much better.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Vizier

Grand Vizier, in Turkish Vezir-i Azam or Sadr-ı Azam (Sadrazam) (in Ottoman Turkish: صدر اعظم or وزیر اعظم), deriving from the Arabic word vizier (وزير), was the greatest minister of the Sultan, with absolute power of attorney and, in principle, dismissable only by the Sultan himself. He held the imperial seal and could convene all other viziers to attend to affairs of the state.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EvilChancellor

"Grand Viziers were always scheming megalomaniacs. It was probably in the job description: 'Are you a devious, plotting, unreliable madman? Ah, good, then you can be my most trusted advisor.'"
— Terry Pratchett, Interesting Times

Sometimes it's the monarchy / Head of State who's the Evil Overlord. And sometimes there's these, where instead of the Head of State being the person who has malicious intent, it's his advisor, assistant, second-in-command, or Head of Government (if the Head of State and Head of Government are separated). Most of the time he's actively scheming to discredit or usurp the throne, and may even be an agent sent for this purpose by an outside power. In other cases, he's perfectly content to be The Man Behind the Man and keeps the ruler around primarily as a fall guy. He can also tend to have more power and influence than the Head of State, especially in cases where the Government is a Parliamentary system or a Constitutional Monarchy. Sometimes called The Evil (Grand) Vizier instead, in which case he will spend a lot of time tapping his fingertips together and calling everyone "effendi". . . .

6. Top Republicans are too afraid to stand up to Cain
Because they'll be viewed as being racist if they tell him to step aside.

8. I don't think it has anything to do with race at all...
It has everything to do with being called out by Rush & the rest of the Tea Party thugs as a traitor or worse "LIBERAL"

14. You may be right but I am viewing it from another angle
Some of my black friends are hoping for Cain to win (don't ask) and anytime someone says anything about him they accuse them of being racist. So of course, everyone in the "Democrat" party is racist. IDIOTS!!!!
