Good news, on a small scale, in Minnesota elections. |

Despite a low turnout, the election results from yesterday are very good. School funding levies passed in almost all areas, with the exception of some Republican strongholds, like Stillwater, in Michele Bachmann's district, where voters spat on the local schools by voting funding down. In Saint Paul, the school board elections were a sweep for the four DFL-endorsed candidates, assuring the large district of progressive support from the board. All in all, it was an excellent result for Democrats, and may help predict 2012 results.

1. Last week's defeat of a school funding initiative in Colorado |
|
was a big loss. But, I am not so sure it reflects a RETHUG ideological win, as much as it reflects a lot of hurting (and frightened) people who just can't vote for new taxes right now, no matter how important. At least I hope that is the explanation. Schools are just going to be decimated here.

2. I hate to see school funding measures fail, but you're right, I think. |

A lot of people are thinking from their wallets right now. I was really surprised to see how well the school funding measures did in MN. I didn't expect it, frankly.

3. The suburban support for public schools gives me hope for the 2012 statewide elections in MN. |

DFL doorknockers will be hitting these areas hard, too. :bounce:
