Teacher terrorized by scam 'debt collectors'
Teacher terrorized by scam 'debt collectors'
Woman gets calls on cell phone, in classroom

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. -

A Lake County Middle School teacher has been terrorized by callers claiming she owes money for a debt she says she knows nothing about.
...

The recorded phone messages are from men with Pakistani or Indian accents speaking broken English and threatening Jablinski with statements like, "Heather, may God help you."

Jablonski said she does not know how they got her personal information, but that she does recall getting a $15 money order from a local Amscot.

She described having her license scanned, providing the exact information the callers have repeated including her work and cell phone numbers.

1. When I get a debt collector on the phone, I answer with "Shto zshe yob, preyom?"
(What the fuck, over?)

I let them talk and then use "Ya ne goveroo po-angleeski" (I don't speak English). Eventually I hang up - buys time.

2. I don't get the debt collectors, but I do get lots of solicitors
One of the things I keep telling myself I want to do when one of those bozos calls is pretending to be a very old person who thinks she has gotten a call from an old friend or long-lost relative.

Then when the person tries to get off (my) agenda, I would drag him back in by accusing him (playfully) of trying to pull my leg by pretending to be someone else...and then asking him how his elderly mom is doing...then describing in disgusting detail my latest bout with constipation and how much prune juice I had to drink in order to clear it up, and what happened as a result...

yeah. I would love to do all that...but I always forget and just end up hanging up on them.

damn.

3. I use "I'm sorry, but would you mind calling me back at a different number?"

They always say "Okay" and I interrupt with "Thank you, bye."

On Edit: "from a different time zone" usually fries their brains.
