Starbucks' new drink size bigger than the human stomach
Edited on Wed Jan-19-11 01:47 AM by AsahinaKimi

In order to compete with McDonald's and other fast food chains forays (such as they are) into coffee, Starbuck's is introducing the new Trenta size coffee. Forget the Master Cleanse: This puppy offers more liquid than the average human stomach can hold. Factor in its diuretic and laxative properties and this is one terrifying beverage.

1. I'm actually sort of appalled by this...
I think Starbucks is making a mistake--the "big Gulpization" of Starbucks. Granted if it were simply iced tea, it wouldn't be so bad, but geebus--can you imagine how many calories, fat, sugar they could load up in one of those puppies with their iced frappacinos and similar?

I wonder if there won't be some push-back...

14. push back! I doubt it.
I would expect to see disposable coffee cups with watch batteries and heating units to keep your mega mega mega grande coffee hot all morning before I see any push back from a larger size being offered.

24. these are only cold drink cups. SB denied planning this size
for hot drinks. Not that that makes a tremendous difference, but like I said, I could appreciate someone wanting iced tea in that size on occasion.

2. Lame photo choice by sfgate.com
It doesn't work without the "Too small?" caption that makes it clear it's not a picture of subject of the article.

Treehugger's original has better illustrations. ;)

At one time in American history we defined ourselves by pushing and breaking the sound barrier. Our symbolism has changed and now we're pushing envelope in another way. How much Starbuck's can the human body tolerate in one serving?

I like their coffee but . . . wow.

social. "Don't bogart that cup, my friend, pass it over to me!"

7. If it was filled to the brim with fresh, high octane, gourmet espresso,
then it might be worth the concomitant (outrageous) price.

15. Are you serious?
You're admitting when you put anything in a container you drink it in one monstrous big gulp? Hell there are plenty of bigger containers out there like the big gulp. This is nonsense.

17. 32 oz of coffee. AWESOME
If it was just coffee (and not that burnt bean shitty kind Starbucks specializes in), I don't think I see the problem. If it's that nasty milkshake shit people order to cover up the fact that they are drinking coffee, then I can see an issue. Still, 32 oz of coffee will require 4 shots of espresso, which is how I like mine.

18. That's lunacy. Combined with the law that you must chug your drink before you leave the counter
Wait, there is no law that you must power chug your drink? You mean some people (like myself) can make a grande or venti (I just order a large, or use my 25oz travel mug) last all day and now have another choice?

If you don't like, don't buy it. Ain't America grand?

20. Don't get me wrong, I love my coffee, but...
This is too much in one cup. There's the practical angle of your coffee getting cold too fast in a paper cup that size. And there's the scary angle of loading up on all that sugar, and of potentially hanging out in the facilities all morning. I can't even fathom carrying around a 31 oz. cup - a grande is plenty for me.

21. At one time Quik Trip conveinence stores had a 52 oz. fountain drink.

Imagine almost a gallon of Mountain Dew, LOL.

But I think the stomach capacity comparison is not that big of a deal as most would think because liquids pretty much go straight to the bowels and bladder anyway. Also, given the diuretic nature of coffee, sodas, etc one would probably have to go to the restroom before finishing that much beverage anyway.
