Nor does "greed". Everyone will gladly eat what's put on their plate - including Democrats. Including the poor.
If you believe, however, that the rich are far less likely to suffer as a result of paying a higher percentage of their wealth in taxes, then you have a political bargaining chip. Then you can make them pay more.
It has nothing to do with sloth, greed, or any other supposed sins.
