Ohio, I'm seeing reports you voted to allow "Obamacare" to be abolished. Facts, please? Thanks.

3. Unless the US Supreme Court is more corrupt than even I am willing to consider....
It will become a moot matter in the not-too-distant future. Federal USSC decisions always trump state law or ballot propositions.

5. the issue was labeled "Healthcare Freedom Act", roughly
People like freedom, so they voted for it. It's not clear how many voters understood what the proposal is.

I just find it interesting that in Ohio, a quarter of the electorate can push the 'yes' button next to 'freedom,' and the state constitution gets permanently amended.

6. They voted down the mandate not the overall plan
Unless, you are saying the plan is the mandate.

7. Look at how the amendment was worded:

This is the word for word title for issue three:

...TO PRESERVE THE FREEDOM OF OHIOANS TO CHOOSE THEIR HEALTH CARE AND HEALTH CARE COVERAGE.....

I'm not saying a majority of my fellow Ohioans are stupid, but we're the ones who tossed Gov Ted Strickland for a Fox News show host last year. The issue wasn't promoted before the election, and yesterday was the first time many had heard of this. If someone was in a hurry and read about all that freedom they could get with a "yes" vote, they probably marked the box and moved on.

The 'Baggers here in Ohio worked to get the individual mandate from The Affordable Care Amendment on the ballot. They figured it would gut what they call "Obamacare" and put Ohio in the national spotlight for hating government health care. I argued with one guy at a petition tent at a car show last summer who told me he was on Medicare, but didn't want the govt to give health care to people in Ohio who didn't deserve it. He told me that it was unconstitutional.

This Summer as the deadline approached, found the baggers getting desperate. In the weeks before the half million signatures were due they began having "Treats For The Troops" events where people could bring Hostess crap to be distributed in Iraq and Afghanistan. While there, these tooth fairy patriots had the opportunity to sign the petition, which was really what it was all about.

Finally, just a few days before the election the Tea Party presented just enough signatures to pass. Though Democrats complained that many signatures were invalid, the Sec State assured dissenters that there were well enough to qualify for a vote.

10. Oh they voted for freedom to chose their own health care providers.
What a bunch of bull. Just watch the rethugs use this kind of argument against Medicare and Social Security. They are socialist programs you know and you have to pay into them. :sarcasm:

11. When a retailer tells you something is "free".....
or if a republican attaches the word "freedom" to a law, expect the opposite.

9. as long as the mandate is deemed a stand alone provision, this is going to backfire big time

We can push to enforce all the other provisions in HCR and watch them go nuts when people don't need to buy health care until they want it and then can't be turned down due to preexisting conditions.

This is just the first round in this fight, gonna be a fun one.
