You have got to be kidding me - Tom Ridge running to replace Graham Spanier at PSU

Tom Ridge in the running for the post of new Penn State president to replace Graham Spanier, ESPN says

Tom Ridge, the former Pennsylvania governor and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, is being considered as the next Penn State president. He would replace Graham Spanier, whose handling of sex abuse allegations against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky has been lambasted by critics both within the Penn State community and nationwide.

ESPN cites a source close to the board in saying that the trustees are "weighing the possibility" of having Ridge replace Spanier.

The board will meet as soon as tonight to talk about the unfolding scandal and the university's response. Many board members are said to have been furious that they have been kept out of the loop at key points since the charges against Sandusky were filed on Friday, including the fact that Spanier sent out a statement offering "unconditional support" for Athletic Director Tim Curley and college vice president Gary Schultz, both indicted for perjury and not reporting a sexual assault in the case.

I mean seriously, they couldn't find an old moldy loaf of bread or moss covered rock they could consider - any choice could be better than that dumbass Tom Ridge. Maybe he'll introduce a color coding warning system for Penn State. I could see it now 'Today is a Code Orange day at PSU - we strongly recommend you keep your young children within arms reach at all time to avoid some perve catching them'

:grr:

13. Ridge should be in prison with the rest of Bush's cronies.
Ridge allowed his Homeland Security Dept. to be used for political scare tactics.

5. Just WTF did you expect?
From the cult of Republican RW Catholicism that dominates that place?

Supporters of Paterno held a pep rally on his lawn last night, vowing undying support for their hero.

Unfuckingbelievable.

Western PA = Capitol of Appalachia

8. That's not Western PA, that's North Central
They are in Centre County and the county was named that for a reason.

I'm sure the people from Western PA appreciate the clarification.

10. I admit I am merely repeating what my step-daughter's husband
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 01:27 PM by robdogbucky
calls it. He is a Pittsburgh native and life long resident.

Any idea what former Centre County DA Gricar's knowledge or possible involvement might have been?

I guess that event is more like Eastern PA than Western PA though, eh?

I presume there was some reason he disappeared and his laptop thrown in the river. Can't for the life of me imagine what that might mean. Maybe nothing, maybe something. Of course with the rep of the AG in Penn. it is not surprising that this scandal was hidden for so long. I mean even one of the mothers confronted Sandusky several years ago (during Gricar's tenure?) and requested a full investigation into what happened to her son. Even after Sandusky told her he was sorry and wanted to die, that he knew she could never forgive him, the local DA told her they would not prosecute, lack of evidence or some such.

I admit I read this on PennLive.com and some of it I learned from the actual charging document, the indictment which was on line but is no longer available. Maybe they are lying too?

My personal stake is minimal, as I am a Wisconsin native and Badger fan, and we play P$U the last game of the regular season.

Wonder if JoePa will still be around by then? Cults are powerful things to dislodge. But a pep rally for Joe in the middle of all this?

12. No that is Central PA - Eastern PA doesn't want the blame either
I heard that about Gricar - interesting twist to all of this

and preferably Northcentral PA. As someone who grew up in South Central PA, we don't want lumped with the mess either!

14. State College is definitely not Western PA
It's 3 hours from everywhere. They call it Centre County for a reason. PA is a rectangle. Find dead center, and you have Centre County.

11. See my post above herein
I was repeating what my step-daughter's son calls it.

He lives there in Pitt, native and life-long resident, practices law, coaches basketball, former teacher in western PA.

Why don't you take it up with him?

A pep rally for Joe last night?

Are you vigorously defending the legend too?

I know, you're a P$U alum. This is a shit storm I do not envy. My condolences to the kids, their parents, the alums, and the athletes that have been sucked into this cult.

15. Nooooooo!
I'm starting to feel like the woman on the bus tonight, who was going on and on, ending with "I'm packing up the kids and moving."

We all (here in Happy Valley) seem to be in shock, with underlying anger and sadness were not quite ready to express.

But the kids... :-(
