Man faces 5th OWI after 4 road rage attacks on pickup truck
A Monona man was arrested on a fifth drunk driving offense after he went into a rage against a pickup truck driver, four times getting out of his vehicle to pound on the windows of the truck he felt cut him off, Madison police reported. Michael Wilson, 52, was tentatively charged with a fifth felony OWI, four counts of disorderly conduct and a parole violation when picked up by police in the 3600 block of Lexington Avenue.

According to a police news release, the incident started about 1 p.m. Tuesday at Stoughton Road and East Washington Avenue. Police spokesman Joel DeSpain said in the release that the 54-year-old female driver of the pickup truck and her 20-year-old male passenger from Franksville were waiting for a green light so they could turn west onto East Washington Avenue from southbound Stoughton Road.

Wilson allegedly got angry and started honking his horn because the offending pickup truck ahead of him wasn't proceeding into the traffic lane. "He also got out for the first time and began swearing and pounding on the truck windows," DeSpain said. "The woman thought he might be angry because she didn't turn right on red, but she said there was traffic on East Washington Avenue which prevented her from doing so." The suspect then followed the woman west on East Washington Avenue to North Fair Oaks Avenue, getting out another three times to pound on the truck's windows.

"He also wanted them to join them in the street, saying something about how tough he was," DeSpain said. The woman got on her cell phone to call police, with Wilson speeding away when he realized what she was doing. She told police his license plate number, a description of his truck and what direction he was traveling," DeSpain said. Wilson denied touching the other truck but admitted to getting out of his truck to "express anger" toward the other driver, DeSpain said. "He said he did so because he felt she cut him off in traffic," DeSpain said. After field sobriety tests, Wilson was arrested on a fifth felony OWI.

Well, at least he didn't have a gun with him.

Costing him his license PERMANENTLY.

Hope he's looking at some actual hard time and anger management training.

6. I was just saying there are a lot of 'shoot first' states
at the first hint of a threat, and the courts have usually upheld the justification (there were a couple of high-profile cases in Atlanta when I lived there)

10. Because in rural areas, which most of the south is,
no help is coming for ten or twenty minutes. The asshole has enough time to break your window out and beat you until he's literally too tired to lift his arms anymore, then go on his merry way before the police arrive.

I wouldn't have shot him, but he would have gotten pepper sprayed.

5. I think we have the most lenient drunk driving laws in the country.
This happened on a busy street in the middle of the day. Just plain scary that there are people out there like this. Wisconsin just passed concealed carry... the idea of someone drunk and in a fit of road rage carrying a loaded gun is what scares me the most. Much worse than fists on a windshield.

9. The guy who helped us go end over end in Denver had 4 DUI violations, had lost his license once,
and had a DUI conviction on his current license.

We were traveling through Denver early one morning, moving from Utah to Florida, when Mr. Multi-Violations lost an unsecured ladder from his truck. As he was backing up, on the interstate, in his lane, up over an overpass, we encountered him, swerved around, rolled it, and went ass-over-teakettle in our shiny new Chevy - we stopped short as we ran into the back of his truck. He yelled into our car, "What the hell happened?", then ran to his truck and took off. Fortunately, my mom and I, along with our two cats, one dog, and a hamster, all made it out alive and with only minor injuries. And fortunate is the word. When the EMTs and police arrived, they all asked, "Where are the bodies?" No one believed that we walked from it.

Twist of lime to the story? Dude was at home, drunk, beer in hand, waiting for the cops to come and get him. He told the cops he thought we were dead. In order to make restitution and avoid being in jail forever, he agreed to pay us weekly until the end of time. He sent three checks, all of which bounced. Then he declared bankruptcy and paid us nothing. I'd bet dollars to donuts he's still got a license today.

13. Glad you all made it out ok.
The sad thing is, people do keep driving after DUI convictions until they are locked away.
