Voters Show Discomfort Supporting Religious Diversity
A new study from the Public Religion Research Institute shows that voters across all political parties are uncomfortable with the idea of a president with an uncommon religious identity, such as Mormon, Muslim, or atheist. In particular, Republicans seem particularly averse to a Muslim or atheist president:

1. The Pubic Region Research Institute?
Are you sure this isn't a front organization of Herman Cain?

all the time and energy wasted in analyzing which mythology is the most popular, or the least likely to advocate harmful practices, or the most likely to encourage its adherents to force others to follow the rules given by their chosen myth... I wish we could just move past this stuff.

4. I think one could extrapolate that we have a real religious bigotry problem in the US.
And I can't say I am free of letting the religious leanings of a candidate affect my view of them.

It is a very tough issue because religion is so closely linked to where many stand on the issues, it is hard not to take that into account when deciding if the person is a good candidate.

10. Oh, look how those poor christians are being persecuted!
A whole 28% of voters are uncomfortable with them running for President.

As opposed to 67% not wanting an Atheist in office.

Must be afraid we'll force the White House Chef to serve roast baby, or celebrate black mass on the taxpayer's dime, or not invite Rick Warren to cast a magic spell at the inaugural, or (GASP!) try to strengthen the separation of church and state...
