Beck tells listeners the 1st-ever test of the EAS is a way for the govt to take over radio/TV
THE OLDER you are, the more nostalgic you will feel Wednesday at 2 p.m., when radio and TV stations halt regular programs to conduct an approximately 60-second test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS).

The government and stations have been working hard to let everyone know it’s coming, hoping to minimize the number of people who will think it’s a fire when it’s really just a fire drill.

National emergency alert broadcasts go back to 1951, when Conelrad (“Control of Electromagnetic Radiation”) was established at 640 and 1240 AM. In 1963 Conelrad gave way to the Emergency Broadcast System, whose Cold War mission was the same: to let us know when the Russkies launched their nukes.

...

Because that’s pretty dry stuff, Glenn Beck and others have livened it up by warning that the government will use these tests as a back-door way to take control of radio and TV stations. There goes your freedom, kids!

5. I sometimes wonder whether Beck has a genuine mental illness.
It's easy to say that he's crazy as a joke, but some of his statements are so far out there that it's hard to comprehend how any rational, sane person could reach his conclusions.

"'Paranoia; is a thought process believed to be heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory beliefs, or beliefs of conspiracy concerning a perceived threat towards oneself. False accusations and the distrust of others also frequently accompany paranoia."

15. I wish!
Then maybe we would get NPR that's actually as leftist as the GOPers say... only without the pledge drives!

Beck takes the tinfoil-hat conspiracy theory game to a whole new leve.

19. If So...They Failed Miserably...
The test was a joke...many stations missed the feed and others had a garbled one. EAS has been a joke since it was proposed in the 90s...our broadcast stations are clueless and unprepared for any emergency...many are run by satellites and computers with no human around.

In the 50s and 60s the DOD established "Conalrad"...a system that did have the abilities to take control of every radio station and was tested and upgraded regularly.

As usual more right wing paranoia to keep their sheeple amused...
