After election defeat, Ohio gov. says it’s ‘time to pause’ anti-union efforts
Source: Raw Story
By David Edwards

Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich said on Tuesday that it was “time to pause” anti-union efforts after voters rejected his plan to strip public workers of most collective bargaining rights.

“You know, when you get beat, you have to admit it,” the governor told reporters. “It’s clear that the people of spoken and you know, my view is when people speak in a campaign like this, a referendum, you have to listen when you are a public servant. There isn’t any question about that. …. It requires me to take a deep breath.”

Over 63 percent of voters in Ohio rejected Issue 2, repealing Senate Bill 5, which would have prevented police officers, firefighters, teachers, and other state employees from collectively negotiating for better wages.

Kasich said he hadn’t decided on whether he would try again to limit union rights.

3. He hasn't decided whether or not to try again, because
he hasn't been given instructions by his Koch overlords - yet.

They will find another way to do this. It will be sneakier this time. Stay on guard, Ohio.

BTW, Ohio: :toast:

4. Their new line is not that it was wrong, but that it was 'too much, too soon'
That's precisely the phrase used by Willie Geist on Morning Joe today.

They're not giving up, they're just going to be more cautious in their adoption of union-busting policies.

10. This is what I see
Instead of presenting one omnibus bill for union busting, the Ohio Republicans will break up one fat, slow-moving target into three or five or a dozen little squirrelly targets. The same folks who mobilized against one bill will have to gather signatures to have a public referendum on several bills, which costs a lot of money and takes a lot of time and volunteer effort. Any failures to gather enough signatures will be trumpeted by the Republicans as a victory for their shenanigans, and "proof" that it is "the will of the people" that workers aren't entitled to bargain collectively, or set up a pension, or whatever other piece isn't directly and immediately challenged.

These motherfuckers do not stop fucking mothers just because someone laid a bat upside their heads, electorally speaking. They'll be back again and again until they no longer have a political platform (read: get turned out of office) from which to perpetrate their monkey business.

7. This was a delicious victory with a caveat...
It was delicious in that when the polls came out when the repeal campaign started, Kasich suddenly wanted to talk to Union leaders since polls showed it running 60 to 30 in favor of repeal, and labor told him to go piss up a rope since he didn't want to talk to them when he got it passed.

He says it's time to pause anti-union efforts, but it's not time for union/labor to pause. We've got them temporarily knocked down, but we shouldn't rest. Now is the time to curb-stomp these bastards.

8. I don't know if a recall is possible under Ohio law
But if it is, 63% voting against him ought to give Kasich more than "pause." It ought to give him heartburn.

Those are RECALL kind of statistics, baby, and they're not in Kasich's favor.

"Pause" in this case translates out to "my job is in dire jeopardy. Did I do something wrong?"

Please, no one tell him. Let ex-governor Kasich figure it out for himself when he's recalled. Yes, he did something (everything!) wrong.

11. His union-busting law gets mauled
like a guy with hamburger-stuffed pockets in the polar bear pit at the zoo and it's time to pause?

You just got beaten like a rented mule, Kasich. Own it.
