One good reason for a politician to speak of himself in the third person
During Herman Cain's recent comments about the sexual harassment allegations referred to him I noticed he began making statements about his innocence from an outside perspective. I pondered why he would do that repeatedly and came up with a possible angle.

Since most people only briefly scan the news each day or catch random quotes on the TV as they grab lunch, how many of them discuss current events with friends and add: "I heard someone say Herman Cain is not the kind of person to run away from this", or: "I read that someone said Herman Cain is going to be found innocent of all these charges".

If this works, expect to hear: "Mitt Romney is the only true conservative running next year". "I'm quoting someone here."

hahaha
