Andy Rooney's College Roommate Dies At Memorial Luncheon

Andy Rooney's college roommate suffered a heart attack at a memorial service for the "60 Minutes" star and died ... TMZ has learned.

It happened about 2 hours ago at the Century Club in New York City, where a luncheon was thrown as part of the memorial service.

The roommate, Bob Ruthman -- who attended Colgate University with Andy back in the 1940s -- was in a wheelchair during the event, and we're told he went to the bathroom. That's where he had a heart attack.

Paramedics arrived and tried to revive the man to no avail. He died at the Century Club.

5. Andy Rooney's College Roommate Revived at Memorial

Andy Rooney's college roommate was revived after going into cardiac arrest at a memorial for the CBS icon today.

As we reported, the man, Bob Ruthman, went into cardiac arrest during Andy's memorial service in New York City today. People who were present tell us ... Andy's son, Brian Rooney, got up on a chair and announced to the crowd that Ruthman had died.

We are now told the FDNY revived Ruthman and he is currently in intensive care at a New York hospital.
