You need to get on the list to work on the inventory (at the least) in January! Good work (at least if you are detailled oriented) that might get you into a more stable position.

If you work full-time, you can earn $17,840 or something around there. You can at least survive on that.

Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 07:32 PM by notadmblnd
My sister just took a job at Tim Hortons after being out of work for about the same length of time as you. I got a job about a year ago after 5 years of not working. It's hard work cleaning houses, but the pwners business is growing and I've had four $1 an hour raises in less than a year. She started me off at 8, so I think I'm going to stay with her for a while.

70. That IS hard work, notadmblnd. |
|
The lady we have is a freelancer, and she works her butt off. My husband was astonished at how little she charged, and has insisted that we give her several raises in the last couple of years. We now pay her a little over twice what she asked for when she started. And she is SO grateful. Last year she told us that she got to take her daughter skiing one weekend because we had "surprised" her with a bigger check than she was expecting. I almost cried.
Our family is doing okay (not rich, but comfortable), and we can afford stuff like that. I just wish we weren't such an endangered species.

79. well I don't make enough to take any vacations yet |
|
but my bills are paid and I can sleep at night. I did have an opportunity to return to my field of work (IT). However, it was for less than half of what I made before I stopped working and a couple of dollars less than I'm making now. Besides, I like the freedom this job affords me. I'm not stuck behind a desk and PC all day answering phones or getting stressed out because a server crashed and our 99.9% up time requirement is compromised.

Not to bring you down or anything, but in his book "Take this Job & Ship It" former senator Byron Dorgan (ND-D), stated that if minimum wage had kept up with CEO pay since the early 90s, minimum wage would be $23.08! Unbelievable, huh?
I'm a little older than you & I think minimum wage was about $2.75 when I started work. I remember landing a job as a bagger at a union grocery store & the top level cashiers were making $6.36 an hour. That was a fair amoung of money back then!
Congrats, again! Hope you have enough to treat yourself to something fun.
