2. OccupyUC's General Assembly proposal for the encampment.
In part...

"We, the UC Berkeley General Assembly, hereby establish an encampment on the UC Berkeley
campus. We establish our encampment in order to reverse the privatization of and cuts to all
levels of education, and to help the university become what it always should have been: open .
and free to all.

We disagree with the idea that this university and this land are the property of the UC Regents,
the vast majority of whom hail from the top 1% of wealU1 holders. We recognize that the
privatization of University of Califomia system has not happened in isolation, but is part of a
broader process by which wealth becomes increasingly concentrated and the vast majority of
population, especially the poor, working dass, people of color, indigenous, queer, and other
marginalized people, are excluded from political, economic, intellectual and cultural life."

Meanwhile... from the Chancellor:

UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau warned Monday that community members could rally on campus, but that encampments and occupations of buildings were not permitted.

"As the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement, we hold an important place in history and are looked to as a model and beacon for others in this regard," the chancellor wrote in an open letter to the community. "We stand ready to support our campus community in leading the collegiate movement in a way that is productive, dignified and consequential."

The university said Wednesday evening that administrators hoped to negotiate a quick end to the effort to establish an overnight camp.

33. The words of Mario Savio bear repeating:
"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all." Sproul Hall Steps, December 2, 1964

There must be at least 2K in Sproul Plaza. WTF is their aim? People reporting cops on the rooftops but there isn't any building close to Sproul so I don't know what they mean.
