Country Music Awards crowd gives Hank Williams Jr. a standing ovation
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 09:09 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
The same industry that shunned the Dixie Chicks couldn't wait to kiss Junior's behind:
---
Take it, Brad and Carrie: "People want to know, Hank, why do you drink (before an interview!)/Why do you smoke (before an interview!)/Football ain't the same/Without that song that you wrote/Stop and think it over/Let me help you get the picture/You can drunk and start carrying on/But you can't compare the president to Hitler."

As the crowd cheered, Williams walked out on stage behind the hosts, leading to a standing ovation. They asked him if he wanted to say anything -- he refrained -- and they launched in to a Country Music Awards show-appropriate version of "Are You Ready?"

I think Johnny Cash had the right message for the Nashville scene when he ran this Billboard ad back in the '90s:

2. Thanks for the heads up.
Hadn't intended to watch the entire show, thought maybe I'd catch Little Big Town and Sugarland, but now that I know about the HWJR "tribute"--forget it. The reasons I can't stand most contemporary "country" just keep growing!

Great photo of Johnny, though!

7. I know a lot of these people. Don't believe a lot of what you see.
It's all corporate bull shit, greed and playing to the lowest common denominator demographic. They play to the crowd. As you can see when people speak the truth they are marginalized. I love the Dixie Chicks! He is as ignorant and arrogant as he seems. If you don't kiss his ass you're irrelevant to him.

9. There's no such thing as country music anymore.
It's a Nashville pop product for a dumbass demographic.

10. For the country music fan base, "patriotism" means
getting behind (or under the desk) of right wing political leaders. :puke:

Filth!

13. What Country Music
All I hear is sappy pop crap.

I'm a rocker, but also a fan of all kinds of music. Country used to have the likes of George Jones, Johnny Cash, Mearle Haggard and John Prine. Now it's Taylor Swift and Keith Urban?

It's almost like country is going through its Disco phase.
