Boy they won't take to the streets against Wall St. or even vote, BUT
mess with their beloved football program and they go all apeshit. They take to the streets for social justice! This is why the college kids don't vote as much as people over 30. They're more concerned about who is bringing the keg to the party on Friday night.

And no, if this message doesn't apply to the way you are, then you're excused. This message is not for you.

3. There are tons of college kids on Wall Street, and tons who went to vote.
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 11:33 PM by antigone382
As a returning student, I went to Wall Street with fifty other college kids a couple of weeks ago to make our voices heard. I spent last Saturday replanting native trees on a mountaintop removal site. We have worked and protested for a fairness ordinance in our town to end discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Today, I sat in a class full of young people--most of whom were southern, most of whom were Christian--who spent yesterday combating the hatred of a pair of Fred Phelps wannabes that came to our campus to condemn us all to hell--especially the gay ones. Their thoughtfulness and concern for each other AMAZED me. And most of the ones that couldn't stay, left to go vote.

Through all of my travels I have been surrounded by young people who have been an immense source of inspiration because of their commitment to building a better world, and their wisdom in figuring out how to get that done. Of course there are short-sighted idiots who happen to be young. Joe Paterno is 84--should I condemn all older people because of him? Broad-based generalizations against an entire demographic group based on nothing but their age is discriminatory and counterproductive and has no place on a progressive board.

Edit: and yes, a claim that college kids don't vote because they only care about keggers applies not only to me, but to a good majority of the people I know, care about, and work with, and I WILL respond to it.
