Why couldn't the Penn State Board of Trustees let it go? |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-09-11 11:57 PM by noise
Does Penn State really need such divisiveness right now? The incident in question happened almost ten years ago. What good does it do for the Board of Trustees to rehash the past?
:sarcasm:
The Penn State Board of Trustees did what the US government failed to do after years of criminal conduct--the right thing. For sure the criminal conduct was different but unlike the US government and mainstream media the Penn State Board of Trustees didn't pretend that things were ok.

3. When this was going down, the Catholic Church pedophilia scandals were hitting the news. |

You'd have thought that Paterno/the school would understand the implications of trying to bury the problem. The child victims eventually grow up and the story still comes out. But instead of dealing with it at the time when they are not involved, they choose to enter into a criminal conspiracy to cover it up.

6. this had gone on since the mid 1990's and they were told. |

they didn't do anything good here. The board is criminal as the others. They were forced to do this. They didn't do more than the government. they were far more negligent. I don't understand how they can be held in any kind of esteem here. They were part of the problem and now they are trying to limit liability and criminality. period.

5. They sure held their gunpowder dry for a decade or more.... |

One, two, or more of those trustees knew about this. Bank on it. I hope there's a true housecleaning... but I won't hold my breath.
Their feet are finally being held to the fire. I hope some truth actually wins out.

7. I read a post on another site that explained some of the inner workings of the school.. |

Faculty rotate through a lot of these oversight positions, it's likely that there were a great many members of the faculty that had heard at least some small part of what was going on.
That college is just like a small town, everyone knows everyone else's business, there are damn few real secrets.
The fallout from this is going to be immense.
