1. I think the difference is that Wiener was an elected official, charged with
behaving properly in his position--whereas Cain is a clown who is running a fake campaign and everyone knows (including him) that he won't be elected to diddly squat.

4. The difference is that Cain sexually assaulted at least one of his accusers.

5. Bullshit. What Weiner did was not a crime. Stupid yes, but what Cain...
... is accused of doing is criminal.

The basic difference is IOKIYAR.

3. If Cain is eventually forced to admit he lied, he's going to meet the same fate as Weiner
Meaning he will have to end his campaign. It's not over yet, folks.

10. Republicans NEVER admit wrongdoing. They "apologize" for the fact that
someone, somewhere, might have been offended by their behavior, but they NEVER apologize for the behavior itself.

It is a distinctly conservative tactic and has become quite noticeable.

12. There are certainly examples of apologies for actual conduct on that side
Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 12:39 PM by RZM
Not a lot and sometimes they seem forced, but you can find them.

Bob Ney:

Bob Taft:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-08-18-taft-apology_x.htm

Trent Lott . . . this one is interesting because it came in two parts. The first apology was like what you mentioned - he was only apologizing for how his remarks were received. Evidently that wasn't enough, so four days later he issued a broader apology for the actual remarks:

http://articles.cnn.com/2002-12-09/politics/lott.comment_1_dixiecrat-party-lott-strom-thurmond?_s=PM:ALLPOLITICS

http://articles.cnn.com/2002-12-13/politics/lott.comment_1_segregation-gop-leader-incoming-majority-leader?_s=PM:ALLPOLITICS

In any case, that's not what I was arguing anyway. If Cain has to admit he lied, I don't know if he'll apologize or not and if he does, it very well may be like the kind of apology you described. My point was that if he has to admit he lied, he's going to have to go the Weiner route and take himself out of the game, apology or no.

I don't think that will happen though. I think he's committed to this path of total denial and he will stick to it unless a real bombshell emerges in the form of independent confirmation to corroborate the word of an accuser (audio tape, leaked legal documents with descriptions of his conduct, etc.)

9. It's better than SNL. Kinda an entertainment reality series. And yet at the
same time a horror show ... that some want one of these characters to be pres.
