Why are there Herman Cain ads showing up at the Democratic Underground?
I have never seen ads here because I use to contribute to DU fundraisers. Now I can't contribute and there are plenty of ads. Money has been tight and being I spend so much as it is on my TV and internet connection, I simply can't pay for individual websites asking for contributions or subscriptions.

I don't feel guilty for not paying extra for each site, because I know websites are able to charge more for their advertising if they have a large following. I'm a loyal follower to the sites I frequent. I "log in" and "Like" them on facebook.

My complaint here isn't that I see ads on DU (I understand money has to be made to cover expenses and to make some kind of profit), my complaint is why do I see Herman Cain ads here on DU?

1. Google Sense picks up keywords and places ads. Google is evil.

5. Yep --->
This is a Microsoft ad, but it pretty much tells you how much Google is snooping on us all.

And selling what it learns about us to anyone who wants it.

7. Keyword-based ads are very common.
If you see ads on DU that you don't like, just report them to Skinner/Elad/Earl G.

DU blocks advertisers that have the courtesy to label/identify themselves as conservative/GOP-centric. But other advertisers just bid on keyword placement without clearly defining their intent.

The thing is, every time you click on one of those ads, the advertiser has to pay Google and DU a certain amount of money.

10. yeah, I think that's the case here.
I did a lot of googleing last night on start ups and business info. The google cookies seem to think based on my keywords, I'd be more sympathetic to rw causes. All I wanted was info on business forms and other stuff related to starting up a business.
