"She is Snooki. It's the same math."
MSNBC's "Morning Joe" wrestled with the media's Sarah Palin fascination on Tuesday's program and contributor Donny Deutsch had a theory:

"She is Snooki. It's the same math. A younger generation, they want to watch this character with big hair, who's funny, you don't know what she's going to say. It's no different, but for a higher demographic. We watch her, she's interesting-looking, what's she going to say, she's campy, she's kitschy. It's telegenic, it's television, it's entertainment. That's the fascination."

3. naw, her legs aren't that good. A bit higher,

No, America loves a TRAIN WRECK.

Deutsch seems to be mistaking "laughing at" with "Laughing with".

6. Jerry Springer normalized the kind of behavior we see from both of them.
He needs to be locked up.

10. Too true...Watching what's "acceptable" now is also remembering the dozens and dozens of...
...steps that get you from The Jackie Gleason Show to Jersey Shore.

12. I was watching a show about Ernie Kovacs a while ago.
For a while, he had one of the most popular shows on TV, full of strange and imaginative skits that sometimes seemed to take forever--because that's where the humor was.

Ain't no way you'd see a show like that on TV today.

14. REally?
People need to be jailed for putting crazy people on tv? Believe it or not, there really are people like this running around IRL. Jerry's a strong democrat, btw--a really standup guy.

16. Except I don't think anyone seriously thinks Snooki should run the country
And there seems to be a very vocal (though small) segment of our population who thinks that Quitterella would make a dandy President. And for that, I fault the popular media, which can't seem to bring themselve to call a nitwit a nitwit.
