Good news for our occupying friends in Fairbanks

Borough mayor OKs Occupy Fairbanks vigil

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks borough mayor says Occupy Fairbanks protesters can maintain a vigil in a downtown park, as long as there is no camping.

Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins says people will be allowed to continue to assemble in the borough's public places as long as they follow the established rules. Borough rules prohibit camping, open flames and sleeping. The borough says Occupy Fairbanks protesters also must follow noise and curfew regulations.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner ( http://bit.ly/uttFh2) says as many as seven people have been at the park each night since the occupation began Oct. 19.

The occupiers will share the park with the Veterans for Peace on Veterans Day this Friday at 11:11 a.m. as they ring bells for peace.

2. Here's the latest from the Anchorage Daily News
http://www.adn.com/2011/11/09/2163238/alaskans-weather-epic-bering-sea.html

It looks like it's kind of a mess out there, but thankfully no one has been reported injured or killed. It'll probably be a few days before all the damage can be assessed. Some of those villages are really remote and if they've been cut off from communicating with outside, we might not know for a few days how bad things are.

We're getting a good bit of snow here in Anchorage, but I'm not sure if it's from the same weather system.
