Excellent response to the Penn State issue...

Could Penn State coaches have done more to prevent this? Plenty of people say yes.

4. The glaring irony is overwhelming.

Why an institution of higher learning has no grasp of such a fundamental truth I'll never know. :eyes:

9. HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
The PTB at Penn State willfully ignored the situation because the football program was a fantastic source of REVENUE, and they didn't want anything interrupting that gravy train of tens of millions of dollars a year flowing into their coffers.

6. Paterno told the athletic director of the school but
then I guess he figured it was settled, and it wasn't. And he knew Sandusky was still working with kids, right? So he did speak up, but he did not press the issue or follow up.

I can't imagine how hard it would be to accuse someone you like of something like this. You would absolutely ruin their reputation forever so you have to be damned sure you are right before you make that call. I'm not saying that's what SHOULD happen, I'm just trying to think through the probable sequence of events. I wonder how many crimes like this are kept undercover because people don't want to be the ones responsible for destroying a friend.

Sad all around. My heart goes out to those boys. Oh my gosh. Those men better be glad it wasn't someone I know.

8. You're way behind on the facts. Paterno knew Sandusky was a pedophile in 1998
Read the Grand Jury report (link at New York Times website).

In 1998, Sandusky confessed to campus police AND a victim's mother that he had molested the 11 year old boy in the Penn State showers. While the campus police were investigating that incident, they found another 10/11 year old who was similarly molested by Sandusky in the Penn State showers. Nevertheless, the Centre County DA was asked to drop the prosecution by the Penn State police. It is quite apparent a deal was struck because when Penn State finished the 98 season (bowl game in spring '99 - Paterno directly told Sandusky that Sandusky would no longer be Paterno's successor as head coach, and Sandusky agreed to resign, AFTER negotiating a resignation deal allowing him to retain an office, phone, email account, and access to all the Penn State sports facilities (including the infamous showers), PLUS continue to offer summer football camps for youths on Penn State branch campus.

Do not delude yourself that Paterno, who ranked above God, let alone the university president, on the Penn State campus, got rid of his heir apparent without specific knowledge of Sandusky's confessed pedophilia. Penn State got the coverup, and for 13 years the monster pedophile wore the Penn State blue & white & used the university's name & Paterno's football reputation to lure young boys to his football camps.

Bottom line: Sandusky confessed. There was not a scintilla of doubt as to his guilt. Paterno knew. Paterno covered up for 13 years, allowing other young boys to be seduced, threatened, molested and raped.
