Woman found fused to a recliner in a filthy home with a heavy smell of bodily fluids and feces
Missouri woman found fused to recliner in home
By HEATHER HOLLINGSWORTH, Associated Press – 1 day ago

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A suburban Kansas City woman was left sitting in a vinyl recliner for so long that her skin had fused to the chair and she had to be pried out to be taken to a hospital after suffering an apparent stroke, authorities said.

Carol F. Brown's adult son told a state official he had left his 74-year-old mother in the chair for five days without helping her get up to use the bathroom or bathe because he was honoring her wishes to die in her Independence home, according to court documents that described the woman as a "rotting corpse that was still breathing." Brown later died.

"It is an incredible story to me," Independence police spokesman Tom Gentry said Wednesday.

Police were contacted after Brown was taken to a hospital Oct. 27 and found to have a maggot infestation inside an open wound around her ankle, according to the court documents that said Brown's home was "filthy with a heavy smell of bodily fluids and feces."

2. I beg your pardon Mr. Owens but love and honor have exactly nothing to do with what you did..
or in this case, didn't do.

Poor woman.

4. She had to be in that position longer than 5 days.
The graphic details kinda point to a much longer period of time.

5. I am having a hard time with this one. One of my hero's is Dorothy
a MN resident who lived in the wilderness in the Boundary Waters area up at Eveleth all her life. She chose to die in her cabin setting in her rocking chair on the porch. I suspect she was not exactly clean when they found her but no one ever talks about that aspect. She is remembered for her independence. She was our Root beer Lady.

This woman living in a city wanted the same thing. However, I think this could have been handled better. She wanted to stay in her home until she died. That is what Hospice does for you. Her son should have asked for home health to keep her comfortable in her home while she died. I have watched this happen with elderly several times. He could have honored her wishes without ignoring her needs.

7. My grandpa went to his little mine with his old dog Shep and the
two of them waited together for death, which found them - it only took about five days.

They (Grandpa and Shep) lived alone, never complained, were always glad to see visitors, but refused to go live anywhere but home. Grandpa had said he was just plain worn out, didn't want to end up like his wife wasting away in a hospital bed and wanted to go to the mine one last time. Told family he was going up to the mine and would be back in less than a week. He and Shep did come back, just not the way they went.

8. I agree with Hospice care but I often wonder
if I would rather take 4 of the brown pills and two of the green in order to end it in my sleep.

Death with dignity seems to be a hard thing to find.

In relation to this story, I'm at a loss for words.

11. There was a great documentary on HBO about physician assisted suicide in Oregon
Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 07:16 PM by Cali_Democrat
I think it was called "How to die in Oregon"

Fricken FANTASTIC documentary! It mainly focused on one woman who had liver cancer and a woman who was fighting for death with dignity to be legal in Washington State.

If I was terminally ill, that's how I would want to go.

10. He left her there for more than 5 days.
If this were Late July, I might believe it, but this was late October when it took place.
