1. I thought sex was something you had with a consenting adult. Why not call it what it is...
...anally raping a child.

It's not like I'm embellishing that. People should read the grand jury findings, very easy to pull up online.

Not for the faint of heart and certainly not worth prettying-up.

3. Exactly.
Can't wait till the 'but he's an ARTIST' defend-Polanski crowd shows up.

4. Actually the context of what Chris was saying was that the media was saying 'molesting'...
Edited on Thu Nov-10-11 05:46 PM by onehandle
And that, that was not strong enough language for the horror of the crime.

Chris is interviewing a reporter who said Exactly what happened and was applauding him for it.

6. I hope that's the context it was said in- because I'm shellshocked at the amount of....
...downplaying that's been occuring in regards to this heinous crime and the resulting equally heinous coverup.

9. Agreed.
Inappropriate touching is molesting. Fondling someone against their will is molesting. Taking a ten year old into a shower and having anal sex with them is rather beyond that level.

But others who did not see it needed 'clarity.'

8. If he's too retentive to say 'anal,' he could still say 'rear end rape.'
But I guess that it's good that he's protesting against simply labeling it 'molestation.' Not that I could stand watching Tweety no matter what he was saying.

14. that exchange made me wonder if all involved weren't enjoying all the graphic
descriptions a little too much.

Just wondering. Not sure we needed the dramatic re-enactment...

17. For christ's sake! Call a spade a spade. Too much
politically "correct" language has bastardized the language to the nth degree. In the case of a child being raped, call it what it is. The people who can't handle it, go in the closet and cry, but these kinds of events need to be confronted head on and the more who are disgusted the better it is for the children's safety going forward.

19. It is true, there is some foolish censorship on TV...and elsewhere.
No one will use one bluntly descriptive word when two soft-soap ones will do, or one plain syllable when three obfuscating ones sound jazzier to their ears.

21. maybe it's got something to do with the time his show originally runs
I watch Chris (sometimes), Ed, and Rachel with my kids going in and out of the room. If they weren't old enough to even hear about sexual violence, I wouldn't watch the news around them, but still, euphemisms are fine with me before, say 8 pm. And there may be actual FCC rules about what can be said at times when kids are likely to be watching TV.
