The Penn State campus police told Sandusky in 1998 to stop showering with the kids
I saw Skip Bayless from ESPN tweeting this a few minutes ago. So the campus police knew what was happening as early as 1998. The police was also involved in the cover up and not just the school.

Ray Gricar was the District Attorney from Pennsylvania who went missing in 2005 and refused to bring charges against Sandusky in 1998 amid sex abuse allegations. Shortly before disappearing Gricar used his home computer to perform internet searches on topics such as "how to wreck a hard drive", "how to fry a hard drive", and "water damage to a notebook computer".

Gricar was legally declared dead just a few months ago. Joe Paterno surpassed Eddie Robbinson's record of most victories just last weekend! and coincidentally all hell broke loose this week.

Coincidence? I do not think so.

Dan Bernstein of CBS says that the Second Mile Club of Sandusky is being investigated and there are "older adult men with interesting relationships".

1. Penn State needs to forefeit all remaining games and vacate all wins this season
Plus every city, county, state, and Federal agency including animal control and the water department needs to be taking a very close look at this school right now.

2. This goes beyond the school If the police participated in the cover up.

12. No, the police are part of the school..
And under the control of one of the people Paterno told about the rape in the shower.

16. there was no cover-up of the 1998 allegations
and the police certainly did not engage in any cover-up. PA state police was also involved in the 1998 investigation. The 1998 investigation was publicly and widely known.

It would be really nice if people actually took the time to read up on this matter so they know what they are talking about. There are tons of detailed articles all over the place.

8. If the Penn St. game is not televised
It will hurt Nebraska fans who want to see their school play. Just sayin'.

14. So sorry, but it happens all the time, whenever one team
is blacked out due to violations.

But if there are never any consequences, what's the sense of having rules? Oh, the poor, poor Nebraska fans won't get to see their team play, so we can't inflict any punishment on Penn State. Oh, the poor poor innocent PSU football players who won't get to star on TV. Oh the poor poor alums who didn't do anything wrong. Oh the poor poor faculty who. . .. Oh the poor poor whatevers, and next thing you know, NOTHING HAPPENS.

It's just like the goddamned wall street greedsters. Oh we can't rein them in because it might hurt the 401k accounts. And we can't institute singel payer health care because it might hurt all the clerks who work for the insurance companies (never mind that they could go to work for the NHS and make more money). And we can't do this or we can't do that because it might hurt some "innocent" people. At that rate, oh, dear, we can't prosecute poor poor Jerry Sandusky because he has all those adopted at risk kids and what will happen to them?

THERE ARE OTHER THINGS TO DO ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON BESIDES WATCH A FUCKING FOOTBALL GAME. Go read a book, Husker fans. Take your kids or grandkids to the zoo. Bake cookies or put a puzzle together or color in a coloring book or watch a movie or go for a hike or rescue a puppy from the pound or write a poem or search your ancestry or volunteer at a homeless shelter or march with an OWS contingent or write a letter to your congresscritter or help your neighbor fix a leaky faucet or pick up some of the trash littering your street or what the fuck ever.

Maybe the Nebraska fans need a lesson in how UNimportant football really is. Obviously the people at Penn State should have learned that lesson and failed. This could be an object lesson for ALL sports fans -- it's a game, nothing more than a game. The world won't come to an end if YOUR team doesn't get on tv this week because they happened to be scheduled to play the team coached by a scumbag.

Lots of people don't get to see their team play. Maybe they have to work that day, or they can't afford cable or whatever. It's not a national tragedy. What IS a national tragedy is that we've elevated sports -- of all kinds -- to such a level of untouchableness that ANYTHING is okay if you're a winner. ANYTHING.

18. Well fyi...
Even though it's none of your goddam business, I usually WORK on Saturdays, like at a real paying type job. And I am an Iowa fan so I really care little about the University of Nebraska. So don't get high and mighty on me.
On second thought, why do I waste my time on an obvious non football fan?

15. Gricar didn't bring charges in 1998 because he didn't have a case
All the allegations were at that time was that Sandusky showered with one boy and apparently the boy said Sandusky hugged him while in the shower with him. He told his mother it made him feel uncomfortable and thankfully his mother did the right thing. During a phone call she had with Sandusky in which the police were secretly listening in Sandusky admitted to having showered with the boy and that it was inappropriate. That's it. There is no crime against showering with a boy. Though is it without question inappropriate, it isn't a crime. Gricar not only didn't have a likely winnable case, he didn't even have one where a crime was definitely committed. DA's routinely drop cases that they don't feel are very winnable even when they DO have evidence that a crime was committed.

Further, Gricar would have been trying a man who at the time was looked upon in the community as a hero and the jury pool would have been in that community. It is also iffy whether or not the boy was willing to testify, and without his testimony there is no case. Even if the boy did testify he could have sunk the case with his own testimony as at the time he only felt uncomfortable by the incident and not violated.

Unfortunately, with the 1998 allegations there was no real case to bring, but it seemed clear that the DA and the police wanted to... they just couldn't find sufficient evidence.

Incidentally, the PA State Police was also involved in the investigation of the 1998 allegations.

17. There was another boy with similar accusations in 1998
So he showered with two different boys and touched them inappropriately yet no charges are brought. He resigns the next year and is given an office and access to football facilities so he can shower with more kids...
