Romney says ‘prepare for war’ against Iran

WASHINGTON — Accusing President Barack Obama of naivete on Iran, Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney promised Thursday that if elected president he would “prepare for war” with the Islamic republic.

In a commentary published in the Wall Street Journal, Romney said he would back up US diplomacy “with a very real and very credible military option,” deploying carrier battle groups to the Gulf and boosting military aid to Israel.

“These actions will send an unequivocal signal to Iran that the United States, acting in concert with allies, will never permit Iran to obtain nuclear weapons,” he wrote.

2. Yeah.. funny how both the Republicans and Democrats
are talking about war with Iran. Gotta have one on the back burner so when we pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan we have something to justify the disgusting amount of money we spend to kill people who are not like us.

13. It would probably be easier to list the Democrats who
don't want military options on the table in Iran. And Obama is not on that list if that was what you were looking for. According to the White House military options are not off the table in Iran.

You want to know the difference between Bush and Obama? At least Obama will attempt diplomacy and sanctions before he goes in and levels the country.

One more thing. I don't see Iran's nuclear program as any reason to bomb them. Who gave us the right to say "well their leader is crazy" after we let Bush sit with his finger on the button for 8 years.

17. False equivalency. Democrats are NOT talking about attacking Iran.
But the Republicans would love for everyone to believe that. The more people who believe that, the more people who are opposed to it might not vote, helping the Republicans.

19. Yeah they are.

They may not be talking about it in front of you but they are. What they would love people to believe is they aren't. However as I said in my previous post the difference is Democrats will actually try diplomacy and sanctions before bombing the shit out of them. But if you think the military is not already war gaming Iran then you need to dig a little deeper.

Plus my opinion of this whole thing is what right do we have telling Iran they cannot have a nuclear program anyway. I don't think we need diplomacy or sanctions or military action. We let George Bush keep his finger on the button for 8 years. That pretty much negates any argument about letting a lunatic have a nuke.

People are growing very wary of these wars, including many conservatives. At least Obama can say that he's ended the war in Iraq and is on track to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. As for Libya, he's lucky it was a fairly short conflict with a well known "boogey man" being killed.

I actually think if a candidate with somewhat isolationist foreign policy views ran this time, he or she would have a strong chance. The politicians may not understand it, but the people are starting to finally get that these wars aren't being fought for the purpose of national security. It may have taken some time, but I think there's real war fatigue. And no one gives a fuck about Iran, just like no one gave a fuck about Libya. Likewise, support for the war in Afghanistan is likely at an all time low, especially since Osama is dead. It took months of a prolonged propaganda effort to scare people into supporting the war in Iraq. That, and it was only two years after 9/11 so propaganda was more effective. Sorry Mittens, but now that Osama's dead and the economy is in shambles, this kind of hootin' and hollerin' over Iran isn't going to hold sway with many.

And I think it's fair to say that much of the saber rattling is done by Israel. If Israel is that threatened by Iran, then I think we can say, have at 'em. But with the warning that if they attacked Iran, we would not be there to save their ass if things were to get ugly. As a nation, we just can't afford more of these idiotic conflicts.

A war with Iran means bringing back the draft. Does the idiot even realize what a war with Iran means? Iran is not Afghanistan, Iraq, or Libya...
