Looking for a short film that was first posted here at DU |
|
a few years ago.
Basically the filmmaker drove into each town in Maryland(?) and then edited how similar all of them looked with a Walmart on this side, the required McDonalds in front of it, K-mart down on the left....
It was really an eye opening film about what big box is doing to communities, I mentioned it to a group and we'd like to play it for our town council before they make some decisions regarding rezoning that would allow Cracker Barrel and Olive Garden into an area that hasn't been completely over-run with Chain, Chain, Chain.
If anyone knows the name of the film or has a link to it, we'd be much obliged.

1. This might be a place to start |

though I haven't watched it yet, and there is more to the program than this part. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/walmart/transform/Also this article might help (and there are scads more articles via Google) as it tells of the impact of low wages, no health care, etc. on the communities that have to pick up the slack. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/06/26/ED186944.DTL
