Newly Adopted Dog Runs off Burglar From Ohio Home
Edited on Fri Nov-11-11 10:09 AM by RamboLiberal
A southwest Ohio couple who adopted a Saint Bernard to save him say he saved their home from burglary a few hours later.

Rubert "Lee" Littler says he was taking Hercules outside Wednesday night when the 135-pound dog started growling, then charged after a man running out of their basement. The dog bit into the man's ankle as he climbed a fence and got away. Police say the home's phone and cable lines had been cut.

Lee and Elizabeth Littler brought the dog home from Highland County's pound less than seven hours earlier. The dog had been found, bloody and dehydrated, by hikers on Oct. 31.

The Littlers tell The Times-Gazette of Hillsboro (http://bit.ly/suYkUf) they wanted to keep him from being euthanized but now figure he's earned a permanent home.

10. That was my first thought as well
All the people who insist they need guns for protection of their homes (funny, we've never had one and our homes have always been just fine) have to explain why the dog isn't sufficient.

And it doesn't need to be a Rottweiler or pit bull. Or even a big St. Bernard (really just overgrown teddy bears). Those yippy little tykes can scare off a burglar really well. Thanks, man's (and woman's) best friend!

3. I'd assume so that if they encountered someone at home...
they could not contact the police.

8. The problem with that is, if there was an alarm, cutting the line would set off the alarm.
The burglar was an idiot in any case.

5. Good dog!!!!
I'm guessing the idiots cut the phone because they saw it in a movie (because no one has cellphones in those old films) and they cut the cable because they thought it was a burglar alarm!

Can't fix stupid...but you can bite it in the ankle!

GOOD dog!

13. Hercules is on the job!
Our sweet, cuddly chocolate Lab, Moose, turns into 90 pounds of fury whenever anyone he doesn't know even walks in front of our house. He's a rescue, too.

Rescued dogs RAWK.

14. Rescued dogs are TERRIFIC!
They KNOW you saved them and they spend the rest of their lives paying you back in thousands of ways that add up to so much more than your original act of kindness.

Bravo, Hercules! :applause:
