CBS Poll: Cain leads with Romney & Newt tied for second--Newt is on the move! |
|
The field of Republican candidates now has three candidates within striking distance of each other at the top of the list: with 18 percent, Herman Cain is in the top spot, followed by Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich with 15% each. According to CBS, Cain and Romney have lost ground since their last poll while Gingrich has gained. Unfortunately, their poll writeup is fairly opaque about what poll they are referring to, but I'm guessing it's the CBS/NYT poll from late October, which showed Cain at 25%, Romney at 21%, and Gingrich at 10%. CBS doesn't say whether the same pollster conducted both polls, so their comparison might be bogus.
According to CBS, most Republicans say they don't care about the accusations:
In a new CBS News Poll, 61 percent of Republican primary voters say the sexual harassment accusations against Cain won't make any difference in their vote, but 30 percent say the charges make them less likely to back him, and that rises to 38 percent among women. Cain has lost support among women since last month - from 28 percent in October to 15 percent now. He has lost ground with conservatives and Tea Party supporters as well.

6. Newt is not yet angry enough to be the candidate. |
|
The right is hungry for a re-thug-lican and they are glad to ignore the harassment allegations if the guy fights back.
Bush surrounded himself with puffed up bullies in the form of Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Bolten and the right ate it up.
Later we saw the hunger for angriness exploted in 2008 by Palin's put-on Annie Oakley routine.
We saw it in their response to Perry's pistol waving Texas tough-guy entry...
I am not sure Newt can be a convincing tough-guy.
And now it's become a requirement in that party.

8. Well, then by that reasoning Romney for sure will not be their candidate. |

10. Were I Obama, I'd be taking Newt seriously |
|
He could very well win the nomination and I don't think he'd be easy to beat in the general election though early matchup polls would put Obama well ahead of him.

14. Obama Will Blow A Hole In The Gender Cap That You Could Drive A Abrams Tank Through |

Women voters aren't going to take kindly to a thrice married man who married his secretary and delivered divorce papers to his cancer ridden wife as she lie in the hospital.
There is not one candidate in this cast of clowns who can beat Obama.

15. "None of the Above" is the one to watch out for. |
|
None of these candidates are showing any signs that they can get a significant plurality of the Republican voter. Each has significant flaws that can be exploited - another 15 debates and a brokered convention could implode this party...without Obama having to do anything but show up.
