Could the reason Rick Perry couldn't remember all 3 government agencies he wants to get rid off
is because he really doesn't want to get rid of them? I know he isn't very bright, but perhaps he is just telling Republican Primary voters what they want to hear. This is a very charitable explanation but it could be the case.

6. Yep. My thoughts exactly.
Just like McCarthy's list never existed, I doubt Gov Brainfart's ever did as well

2. I heard a commentator say it's because he doesn't really care
one way or the other, just wanted to throw out the "good" answers forgot his script. If he felt strongly about these agencies, there'd be some conviction and passion and he wouldn't forget. It's like he just picked the three agencies that would score well with the voters.

Exactly like you said -- just telling the Republican Primary voters what they want to hear. But he blew it.

3. I rather favor the connection between memory loss and stress
It's pretty common, and very embarrassing.

4. The man is governor of Texas and this was his umpteenth debate;
what stress?

I think Republicans have been thinking in sound bites for so long, they aren't used to completing a sentence any more. Everyone in their usual audience knows the routines by heart, too.

5. Experience doesn't mean no stress
Edited on Fri Nov-11-11 12:26 PM by HereSince1628
You might expect that prior experience would lead to adjustment. But that doesn't always happen.

I am not saying having a guy who has difficulty with stress as a president is a good thing.

I am only saying stress is a common contributor to transient episodes of memory loss.
Sleep disorders, also related to stress, are commonly associated with this sort of thing.

I can't say that it isn't just a matter of a forgotten line in a script.

But then this is standard stump speech stuff for him and you might also expect that the umpteenth time that is done should be no problem.

I think he's struggling, he made some statements that became enflamed and turned his campaign upside down. The reaction was all very different than the adoration he received just a bit over 2 months ago.

I can imagine his brain is working overtime trying to adjust to the twist in his circumstance that is challenging him on multiple levels.

8. Oh, no doubt.
The problem is he's unable to remember a list of three things.

And he wants to be President Of The United States.

List of three things.

President.
