Americans Face Guantanamo-Like Torture Everyday in a Super-Max Prison Near You
To little public outcry, tens of thousands of citizens are being held in horrific conditions in super-harsh, super-maximum security, solitary-confinement prisons.

January 18, 2011 |
Mike James.

Editor's Note: Courageous WikiLeaks whistleblower Bradley Manning is reportedly suffering some of the same horrible experiences detailed in the article below, including 23 hours a day of solitary confinement, which has been labeled torture by numerous prison and psychological experts.

“They beat the shit out of you,” Mike James said, hunched near the smeared plexiglass separating us. He was talking about the cell “extractions” he’d endured at the hands of the supermax-unit guards at the Maine State Prison.

2. The more fascinating thing is that

it took Bradley Manning for people to consider the treatment at maximum security prisons "Guantanamo-Like Torture."

6. Not really
this is old news among those of us who have spent decades paying attention to the racist criminal-injustice system...

My first direct Progressive lobbying activity was against ronny ray-gun in the early 1970s (when he was <GAK> governor of California) and was on prison reform...

It briefly worked in California but then at the end of Jerry Brown's term he committed what he himself called the worst move of his administration; removing the word "rehabilitation" from the mission of the California Dept. of Corrections which directly led to today's sorry situation in the prisons and jails of California...

7. It's easy to do when one denies the humanity of anyone who gets
convicted of a crime...

It's called objectification and USAmerica is full of it...

And there are plenty of examples of people demonizing those convicted of crime on this board, too...

9. Calling Michael Moore
I wish Michael Moore would turn his awesome skills as a documentarian and filmmaker to the subject of America's appalling prison sysytem. It's perfect for him, and really deserves attention.
