Salon: In last 2 weeks, Cain lost almost 1/2 of female supporters, but men still on the Cain Train.

Herman Cain’s gender gap
Almost half of the women who were with him two weeks ago have now jumped ship -- but men are standing firm

Two new national polls confirm there’s been measurable slippage in Herman Cain’s support in the GOP presidential race — but that he remains at or near the top of what remains an unsettled field.

A CBS News poll puts the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO in first place, but only with 18 percent — a drop of seven points from CBS’ last poll two weeks ago. Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are tied for second with 15 percent, followed by Rick Perry at 8. A McClatchy/Marist survey, meanwhile, has Romney in the lead with 23 percent, Gingrich in second at 19, and Cain close behind at 17.

Cain’s dip seems to be primarily the result of defections from female supporters. In the last CBS poll, which was released October 25, he actually enjoyed more support from women (28 percent) than from men (22 percent) and led the GOP pack with 25 percent. But now, after more than a week of intense news coverage of sexual harassment allegations, only 15 percent of female GOP voters say Cain is their top choice, while 21 percent of men are still with him.

Cain’s plummeting support among Republican women may reflect something of a split among conservative opinion-shapers.

1. Because the men think it is cool or their right to control women?

6. I think there are two parts to this...
1). I think men...and by this, I mean "male Cain supporters," not the entire male segment of the population...think it's no big deal if he did it, and admire his brass in denying that he did (and I believe he did).

2). I've said this before, I'll say it again...Cain is Sarah Palin with a penis. He has the ignorance and the arrogance in equal measure to Grifterella, and since she took herself out of the game, he's all they've got.

They HATED McCain in 2008. And when it came down to the fact that he was their nominee, like it or lump it, many of them PRETENDED to "like" it.

But Romney? I don't see that happening. If he's the nominee, I have no idea how they'll respond...probably a lot of pissing and moaning about what President Obama will "do to the country" in a second term.

7. Half of those who supported Cain in the first place
So I'm thinking he's gone from like ten Republican women supporters to five. Soon enough, Women for Herman Cain will be able to fit in the front seat of his car, which could be his plan all along.

8. That doesn't surprise me.
We had a guy right here on this board say that, after seeing how hot the latest (blonde) accuser is, he could almost like Cain more for having tried to score with her. It was pretty disgusting.

10. That's pretty disappointing, but...
...it's a fact of life that some guys never grow out of adolescence. There's a field day of "Psych 101" potential reasons for that, there are adult males who invest in relationships, and there are adult males who attempt to "score." It's as old as the world, and I don't see a possibility of it changing in my lifetime.

11. Sexism is alive and well and it certainly crosses the ideological divide
I have a friend who abandoned the Republican party during the Bush regime (he was a Reagan Republican back in the 80s and mostly apolitical during the Clinton years) and embraced the Democratic party and a moderate-liberalism but when it came to the issue of sexual harassment, he could only see it from the point of view of male privilege. He felt he should have the right to flirt in the workplace (even if such "flirting" included patting women on their backsides) without being hindered by the "nanny state." Women who objected were not offended because they had the right to violence-free workplace but because the men the accused "didn't look like Brad Pitt." Somehow cases of sexual harassment and other sexual impropriety are always judged through a lens whereby the physical attractiveness of the accusers (and sometimes the accused) play a part in the determination of guilt or innocence.
