Dems On Super Committee Willing To Keep Bush Tax Cuts?
Maybe they need to be occupied.

“WASHINGTON -- Under their latest proposal to the deficit reduction super committee, Democrats would agree to undertake comprehensive tax reform that included a pledge to avoid letting Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy expire.

According to a private document, the authenticity of which was confirmed by a leadership aide, super committee Democrats are eyeing between $950 billion and $1 trillion in revenue raisers and tax hikes as part of a $2.3 trillion deficit reduction package. Between $300 billion and $350 billion of that would come from what one congressional aide described as "low-hanging fruit" -- ending tax incentives for corporate jet owners, closing loopholes for oil and gas companies, changing ethanol subsidies, and so on.

The remaining $650 billion in revenue that committee Democrats are targeting would be raised through a set of "Fast Track Procedures For Tax Reform." As part of those procedures, Democrats would agree to three guiding principles: "(a) corporate tax reform to enhance competitiveness, (b) an individual rate no higher than 35% and (c) a distribution of changes that ensures a tax code as progressive as current law."

Another Senate aide, familiar with discussions, insisted that the document was not a formal Democratic plan but rather a "proposal that's been discussed."

17. That was before the cuts. But if they're retaining the cuts, wouldn't the top rate
be less than 35? I was thinking it was 32 -- but I don't know.

20. It is currently 35%, the Bush rate.
Obama says he wants to raise it to 39.6%,
the rate before the Bush Tax Cut.

I would like to see the Democratic Party start pushing for a return to the Pre-Reagan tax Rates
under the marketing Banner of
"The 99% want our America Back!"

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

4. What do you expect? Unlike us peasants, they will vote for what's good for them
They are all millionairs who don't want to pay their fair share of taxes. Guess we have not spoken loud enough last Tuesday.

6. Not occupied. Those bastards need to be removed if
they do this. In truth Bush era cuts expired when Obama renewed them. They are Obamas tax cuts for the wealthy.

9. As soon as Obama allowed them to be extended
with little to show for it and no fiscal concessions from the Repukes, i knew they would be made permanent.
We live in an era of making the wrong choices over and over again.

12. I say raise the rate back to 70%
It would not be a tax increase because it was there once before
and if these rich people and corps are complaining
do they not know we are at war and they are just un-American

13. Time To Take Action
If the move from banks to credit unions can get attention then we need to take parallel action. Monday morning I am going to change my voter registration from Democrat to Independent. If enough Democrats and Republicans sis this we might get the attention of Congress. If we don't get their attention we are doomed. I honestly can't tell one party from the other and that is distressing.

15. Why is it always the democrats that always make the compromise offer?
The rethugs, if ever, make sparingly few offers and even with those they reiterate their "no rollback" on the bush tax cuts for the rich! It is very distressing to watch the democrats continually snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

25. please relax
First it's just a proposal if it is even true. Second, it will never pass the full Senate that is if it is true. Third, if the President wants to be re-elected and not let his base stay home like in 2010, then he will veto it, if it is true. And fourth, it might not be true. So relax.

26. Progressives Have Learned the Lesson Of Ignoring "Forewarned Is Forearmed' The Hard Way
Good if it's just useless speculation, will get vetoed or if people are getting excited about nothing at all. But if the past is prologue warning shots should be fired that they do this at their peril.

And welcome to you to DU. :hi:
