Sickened by the Penn State fiasco |
|
Every person who is/was involved (yeah, even looking the other way means you were involved)...is accountable for what happened.
Different levels of accountability would obviously mean different things legally speaking--but, the one constant should be...loss of jobs and financial restitution to the victims.
The school program, unfortunately, was run by men who were accountable. Therefore, the program is accountable. End of story.
Every cent of endorsement money and profit made since the first verifiable assault should be matched and given to the victims. Every cent given in scholarships should be matched and given to the victims.
The whole thing needs to be cleansed from the top to the bottom.
And money isn't going to make it go away...but it is one of the ways that the victims can hurt the people who are accountable.
The NCAA needs to intervene and make sure that ALL eligible athletes from Penn State who wish to transfer out are not sanctioned or otherwise punished for this unless they show provable culpability. This isn't THEIR mess and ALL other universities should do what they can to help these athletes reestablish themselves into reputable schools and programs and then the NCAA needs to give the Death Penalty to Penn State athletics across the board. For no less than 5 years. SMU Football NEVER recovered from this and perhaps Penn State should follow suit.

1. I think they should clean house at Penn State |
|
Anyone who knew and said nothing, anyone who did nothing - gone
Not sure about the DP, since IF they were to clean house, they'd only be punishing the new employees

8. The program is accountable. |
|
The program needs to suffer.
As sad as it is.

2. I was sickened by the Church scandal. Of course, I'd known for decades they were |
|
pedophiles. We lucky kids all learned that through the grapevine. Some unlucky kids learned it first-hand.
The Michael Jackson scandals gave me the same sick feeling.
The Penn State scandal gives me the same sick feeling.
I'm wondering when certain high-placed Hollywood personalities will be revealed as child rapists, too. That s/b next.

3. Yeah, well, none of that is going to happen |
|
There will be lawsuits. There will be settlements.
There will be trials, and convictions. There will be prison time.
There will not be NCAA sanctions, since there was no violation that affected the games, which is the only thing in the NCAA's jurisdiction.
There will be some small drop-off in recruiting and donations for next year, and that's probably the sum total of effects on the institution.
The teevee will stop covering it, and most of those frothing at the mouth about it now will have started frothing about some other outrage.
Not in that order.

4. I'm not sure about that |
|
apparently Sandusky was going around to football camps (full of underage players :scared:) and recruiting them for Penn State as recently as last year. Since he's no longer employed by the university, that's a no-no.

5. I believe players do have some leeway to transfer after their coach leaves |
|
I've seen it happen in men's basketball (notably, star point guard Chris Corchiani from N.C. State to New Orleans). Not sure about football, though.

6. I like that you use the word accountable instead of responsible |
|
And you're right. Everyone is accountable for what they did or didn't do. Even doing nothing carries the same weight as doing something when you speak in terms of accountability for one's actions. Or inactions.

10. Shut it down. Disgusting, Penn State still doesn't get it. NCAA should apply the death penalty. nt |
