NY, DE, PA, NJ DUers
Edited on Fri Nov-11-11 09:27 PM by grntuscarora
The Delaware River Basin Commission will be meeting in Trenton, NJ on Monday, November 21 at 10 am. The panel will be voting on regs that would open 13,000 sq. miles of the Delaware River basin to fracking. The regs would permit up to 20,000 wells to be drilled in an area that supplies water to 15.6 million people.

Info about the regs and their multitudinous shortcomings at : http://protectingourwaters.wordpress.com/

Informative Democracy Now interview with Josh Fox at: http://www.democracynow.org/

I know many of you are already aware of this meeting, but wanted to post an alert for any who might not yet have heard. Hope there is an enormous turnout!

6. Pike County is in the Bulls-eye.
I'm central PA, but this endless fracking is screwing us all.

10. White House Could Cast Decisive Vote to Permit 20,000 Fracking Wells in Delaware River Basin
http://www.democracynow.org/2011/11/11/white_house_could_cast_decisive_vote

"This week the Delaware River Basin Commission released draft regulations to allow for the natural gas drilling technique hydraulic fracturing, known as fracking, in the river’s watershed, which provides water to 15.6 million people in New York City, Philadelphia and New Jersey. The proposed plan would allow for some 20,000 gas wells to be developed in the watershed. A vote on the regulations is set for Nov. 21 and could prompt a battle between activists and the White House, which holds a seat on the commission and may cast the deciding vote. We speak with Josh Fox, whose documentary about fracking, "Gasland," was nominated for an Academy Award, and play an excerpt of his new video about the possible impacts natural gas fracking could have in the Delaware River Basin. ..."

Thanks!

11. At the risk
of committing a forum faux pas, I'm bumping my post.

This meeting is enormously important, and just want to make sure all who might be interested in attending learn of it in time to make arrangements to be there.

P.S. Is there a DU "bulletin board" where upcoming events can be posted? (I'm a relative newbie, and still learning the ropes.)

12. No such thing as a faux pas at the DU, buddy.

They let everyone post here.

We're waiting for Cain to show up later today and explain what he meant by saying he was a brother of another mother when they asked him why he sexually assaulted women.

Cain supports fracking, I'm sure.

There is an activist forum, sort of a bulletin board of sorts.
Hit the "Lobby" folder at the top of the forum to find all of the specific subforums here at the DU.

Good luck, by the way.

14. I used to live in Princeton Area of NJ...Delaware River Basin is important
Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 06:33 PM by KoKo
and if I still lived up there I'd be in the streets.

However, we here in NC are facing the same thing....and yes...we are pushing back. It's everywhere and an attack on all sides and folks really are glad to give up their land rights all over America to Fracking and drilling...because we are in a depression (I don't care what the statistics say...most Americans feel it's a depression and will take money wherever they can get it). Disgusting they make this push when average Americans with land are at their most vulnerable.

16. But the commercials tells us it's safe, just like clean coal
I don't think big oil would lie to us, do you? Because someone might send a stern letter and try and hold them accountable if they lied.
