You know, reading that Sandusky investigative report was hard. Real hard
the man was completely reckless (of course he was/is an evil, sick pig).

He had to have been protected. He had to have been.

Too much took place for too long with too many people knowing about it.

This thing is deep and it goes deep.

And I'd like to thank DU for the excellent updates and commentary.

I came into this story completely blind of the facts. This has been one painful education.

1. I read it too.
It's likely there are many more victims. Paterno should be deposed and if appropriate face criminal charges.

2. 1998
And the guy was afforded emeritus status, the keys to the kingdom, as it were.

People are talking about the coaches being in the know. They reported it to the campus police and they to the state authorities.

The guy who decided not to prosecute has disappeared. And our friends in Congress who prey on children get off without prison.

Something stinks. And it isn't David Vitter's Pamper.

4. It's very difficult for me to fathom how humans can do this sort of thing.
My wife (just retired) was a social worker for more than thirty years, so I certainly know bad stuff happens to kids.

But I really had no idea that the level of denial at this university could exist. It really sickens me.

The coverup indicts everyone. They enabled this defective person, and they KNEW it.

I hope they throw the book at all these enablers. Who witnesses this stuff and stays quiet? How could you not intervene when it is so obvious?

+1

5. yup....we had a guy like that in my little town
he was married had kids and liked little boys. everyone knew it and looked the other way. it was the 50`s where to much was just swept under the rug or ignored.

there were a lot of people who knew about sandusky but everyone had something to lose if he was outed. there`s a lot of people that should be praying that god forgives them because jesus sure in the hell ain`t.

6. Keep in mind... he start The Second Mile foundation in 1977
I've been posting this and will keep posting it... on average, serial pedophiles will molest 150 different kids before getting caught and put away.

7. It's stomach turning, isn't it. Especially when it's almost certain that the
eight victims are only the tip of the iceberg. (I gather a ninth has already come forward and he won't be the last by a long shot, I'm sure.)

8. 5 of his 6 adopted kids were little boys, now adults.
Quite telling that none of them have stepped up to their father's side or publicly spoken in his behalf.

11. Yes, it is hard. And the more that comes out, the more sickening it becomes.
There doesn't seem to be any doubt that authorities at PSU knew about the horrible abuse to these children at least 9 years and possibly as many as 13 years ago, and did virtually nothing to stop it. When looked at in its entirety, it's stunning. Not a single person in a position to stop this took steps to do so. I don't know how any of these people can reconcile that within themselves. I just don't know how.

12. Same here- I originally thought this was basically consensual with 17-18 year old boys.

Only a day or two ago I read an article and I was like "Whaaa??!" then I read what I could of the grand jury report. Ugh.

Yeah, ain't no way I'm letting him off the hook by using the word "insanity" but the dude seems criminally insane. I mean, his doing that shit in the showers. It shows he was far gone and clearly had minders or some kind of protection.

Which is why I'm taking serious just how deep the cover-up runs, because you don't basically get to the point where you're fucking little kids in the "open" if you don't live in some kind of bubble to get away with it for a damned long time.
